Weight management

Studies show about half of dogs and cats in the US to be overweight or obese. Just like people, overweight pets face greatly increased risks of developing osteoarthritis, diabetes, respiratory disorders, high blood pressure, heart disease, and many forms of cancer. By ensuring your pet is a healthy weight, you can increase his or her life span by up to 20%!

How we can help

If you think your pet is overweight, please contact us to schedule an appointment with one of our veterinarians. They will help you calculate exactly how much food to feed your pet, and may do bloodwork to check for underlying metabolic disorders, which can cause excessive weight gain.

How much food should I feed my pet?

This is an excellent question. To help you answer it, we have prepared a worksheet that estimates how much food is appropriate for your pet, based on their current weight and activity level. One of our veterinarians will be happy to go over it with you during the office examination, at no extra charge.

Win free pet food!

Every year, we run a pet weight loss competition, sponsored by Hill’s Pet Nutrition. The participating dog and cat that loses the most weight (calculated as a percentage of starting weight) by the program end will each win a year’s supply of Hill’s pet food.

Subscribe to mailing-list (see form to the right), in which the start date of the forthcoming competition will be published. On or after that date, schedule an appointment and ask to be entered.
